Vaccinations to Prevent Swine Flu

I've been trying to figure out how to comment on the NY Times article on Swine Flu which I "tweeted" earlier. Regarding vaccination: I’m reminded of an old science fiction novel in which people were vaccinated to prevent the spread of a deadly disease.
It turned out that the vaccinations themselves were deadly and people then had to have yearly shots to keep alive. That proved a very effective way to control the populous. The “Powers That Be” simply withheld the shots from those who didn’t comply.
I’m not saying this is what might happen – but think what it would mean if some terrorist organization were to gain control that way. One of the first things to go would be the right to own weapons.
Admiral Yamamoto was once asked about invading the mainland United States. I don’t have his exact words but he meant it would be stupid because there would be a gun behind every blade of grass.
I believe that is one of the reasons we remain free. I do not agree that people should be able to own high-powered automatic weapons to go after those dangerous deer, but I do believe that those who legally can own weapons and want to should be able to do so.
I also believe that anyone who wants to own a handgun should watch an episode from the old Dragnet series with Jack Webb and Harry Morgan. Harry Morgan’s character says, more or less, “If you want a weapon for home defense, don’t get a handgun, get a shotgun. It’s unlikely anyone will be stupid enough to try and take it away from you and if all else fails; you can always hit someone with it.”
The show was based on the idea (I think it was California state law) that a stolen registered weapon is to be returned to the owner. In this case, the man of the house wanted a handgun, the wife did not.
The last scenes were of their little boy playing quick draw with his younger sister – his gun was real.
